This activity engages students in hands-on learning by allowing them to operate a total station for data collection and then process that data in CAD software to create detailed maps. Through practical experience, students will understand the full workflow from field measurement to digital mapping.
Objectives of the Contest:
- Understanding the Parts of Total Station: Discuss each component and how they work together.
- Working Principle of Total Station: Discuss how total station measures angles and distances, and how these measurements are used to determine precise locations in the field.
- Hands-On Operation: Enable students to set up and use a total station, gaining practical experience in field surveying techniques.
- Data Collection Accuracy: Teach students methods for accurate data collection, emphasizing the importance of precision in surveying.
- CAD Integration: Familiarize students with importing total station data into CAD software, enhancing their technical skills in digital mapping.
- Team Collaboration: Encourage teamwork by having students work in groups, fostering communication and collaborative problem-solving.
On October 26, 2024, the “Total Station to CAD: A Comprehensive Workshop On Total Station Data Collection And Map Creation” was organized for Civil Engineering students of Anurag Engineering College at the Block A, Block D and CAD LAB.
The structure of the activity is as follows:
Activity Structure:
Step 1: Explanation of Total Station components and its working.
Step 2: Practically collecting data using total station in the field.
Step 3: Transferring data from total station to CAD in the lab.
Step 4: Connecting the points collected and preparing map.
