One Day workshop on “EV Technology: Latest Trends and Future Prospects”
October 29, 2024

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) conducted a One Day workshop on “EV TECHNOLOGY: LATEST TRENDS AND FUTURE PROSPECTS” by Dr. M.M. Irfan, Assistant Professor & HoD(EEE), SR University, Warangal on 29th October 2024.

Day 1 of Session 1: learned about EVs Components Industry Growth FY 25, Impact on Electricity Demand & Grid Capacity, Classification of Electric Vehicles, Electric Propulsion Unit, Modern Battery Powered EV Power-train Configuration.

Day 1 of Session 2: Vehicle-to-grid (V2G), EV Charging Infrastructure, Battery management, Classification of EV Chargers, Charging infrastructure, Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology, Hybrid Electric Drive-Trains, Load Profile of the HEV Drivetrains.

Objective of the Program:

A strong charging infrastructure is necessary for the growth of the EV market. It should serve both urban and rural areas, especially those with an unstable or nonexistent electrical supply. Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology can provide a safe, efficient, and convenient charging solution that helps increase public acceptance. The battery is responsible for storing the energy required for an EV to operate. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) transfers the electricity stored in EV batteries to the grid, houses, buildings, and other energy-consuming destinations. EV readiness is a community-wide effort that requires planning, policies, and support services to prepare for the growing number of EVs and charging infrastructure.

Benefits of the Program:

Electric vehicle (EV) technology is evolving rapidly, with new trends and developments emerging regularly. Some of the latest trends and future prospects for EV technology include:

  • Charging solutions: Bidirectional charging, which allows energy to flow both ways between the car and the grid, is a major breakthrough in charging technology.
  • Battery technology: Improvements in battery technology are expected to extend vehicle ranges and reduce charging times. The price of battery packs has also been falling, with the cost of key battery metals dropping in 2023.
  • Semiconductors: SiC-based WBG semiconductors are being used in inverters to reduce the size and weight of the system. GaN-based semiconductors are also emerging as an option for lower-power systems.
  • User experience: User-centric design and more accessible public charging stations are expected to improve the user experience.
  • Vehicle health checks: AI-powered vehicle health checks are a new trend.
  • Sustainable disposal: Sustainable disposal of materials is another trend.
  • Energy efficiency: Energy efficiency and regenerative braking are also trends in EV technology.

Overall, EV Technology workshops learn EVs, batteries are a critical factor, as these will determine the vehicle’s autonomy and knowledge necessary for Latest trends and future prospects.
